The west coast has gone through a bit of a 'perfect storm' of sorts, but the clouds have breezed on and we have clear sky's. Now that the storm is over and the future is at our feet, what now!!!!!
There is new energy a foot and with that brings hope and dreams springing to life again. The change is centered around a visionary group of partners who have the vision and foresight to look way down the road.....but it also has the bankroll to back it up for the long run as it fulfills our dreams!!
The west coast has always been the little brother of the east coast with the parent organizations 2-3000 miles away. It has had to fend for itself for many years and decades there were no alternatives and we felt like no one was listening much less doing anything about it. But the years have brought determination and pure guts to riders and trainers here. Sadly as riders and horses got better the only choice to "chase the dream" was to leave and either settle in Florida or Europe.
Now we have a fall and winter option bringing hope....Desert International Horse Park is determined to bring really high performance, International show jumping west. Extensive changes to the Thermal horse park, Million dollar classes, really great footing and much much more plus a staff that takes seriously what riders want and what it takes to hit the big time.
Blenheim Equisports stepped up with the first west coast Nations Cup production this summer. NEE and HITS serve the 80% middle of the pack, AND SHOULD BE PROUD OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND IMPACT! They are the foundation and introduction, with amazing VIP experiences and a true training ground for horses and riders climbing the ladder. This 'lane' for our west coast show horses is important as long as we continue to keep our eye on the top and it's possibilities and don't negatively compete against what's happening in Thermal.........i.e Major League Show Jumping with it's fall Championships and Finale and the exciting winter schedules.
Now that we have choices, what do we do with them?? How do we support the sport here at the top and at the same time encourage the climb and the 'Spirit of the Sport' as this coast changes????
LOVE to hear your ideas and thoughts.... showjumpingusa@gmail.com

The west coast is a magnificent place to live, to raise families and to play with horses. The weather is exceptional year round, shows are plentiful and available at different levels, both north and south.
BUT something is missing and it is costing the west coast dearly!!!! Top businesses and riders are moving east in a bit of a mass migration while our Young riders are changing Zones, sales barns are moving east, and TOP PROFESSIONALS are leading the charge!! The summer months of top showing opportunities in other parts of North America attract the California elite to simply load up the horses and travel!
SHOW JUMPING USA is committed to "making a difference" for this coast. While we do not completely understand what that means yet, or how to affect change, we are committed to working diligently to make that change happen!!!
Please sign up for communication as we go along.... OR better yet, spend a few bucks and join us in our efforts so grants and programs will be available to you, you must be a member to take part in those. We cannot do this alone and it will take 'a village'!!
Please be part of our village.
We have started with personal meetings one on one with top show managers and riders... the conversations have been amazing and quite eye opening. When we are done with these conversations there will be a report...
AND THEN WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, to be on the list of the people with vital opinions, please email us!! IT'S A START, AND IT'S ONLY A START, but it is already fascinating what we have learned.
JOIN US!! AND PLEASE GO TO THE SHOW JUMPING USA BLOG... it is very interesting.

CALIFORNIA MASS MIGRATION GOING EAST, YOUNG RIDERS CHANGING ZONES and THE GLASS CEIING
Show Jumping USA is a new endeavor brought together by people who love the sport of show jumping yet see many needs that are not addressed or talked about 'in public' while back gate quarterbacking is rampant.
To start off Show Jumping USA and this website, this particular BLOG and the journey Show Jumping USA is on, we take on the subject of the situation in the west where a mass migration is happening from TOP professionals, Young Riders changing Zones to the few breeding farms we have struggling. Mostly, all this affects our next generations...... who will stay for how long is the question!! What will the west coast look like in 10-15 years? While these discussions happen at the back gate or on the show grounds, it seems to be a subject that public discussion avoids and very little pro-active works is happening.
Show Jumping USA, while certainly not an 'expert' of any kind, is stepping into the flood light and putting 'boots on the ground' to bring daylight to what is happening where the west is becoming a place to be "FROM". Starting right off the bat by meeting personally with show managers, and full detailed discussion with them, has proven to be exceptionally enlightening, let alone interesting and quite fun. So far most of the top managers have been extraordinarily cooperative and very open and honest about their product, the sport in California, where they fit following the USEF schedule, the changes from USEF and what these managers think. Follow up questions and more discussions have been extremely welcomed and their openness refreshing! HOWEVER, our invitation and outreach to one of the California managers (17 efforts-text-email-phone calls-messages at their show office etc) have been ignored. I would hope that response changes, their opinion is important BUT lack of it will not stop forward motion for Show Jumping USA!!!
The Show Jumping USA group of individuals and business members are focused on the welfare of the horse, the next generation of young Professionals in the sport, industry staff education, preserving history and creating opportunities, as well as assistance, working toward the future of show jumping in the west.
You are invited to contact us and be a part of this discussion and we welcome your input. Collecting information is time consuming and what you have to say is vitally important to us. Whether you are a top professional or a pony kid's mom, we need to know what you have to say. Kathy Hobstetter is our roving information central, she is at just about all West Coast shows and will make time for you discussion... PLEASE contact us, or her, and make time to sit down and BE HEARD!!!
Show Jumping USA is always interested in your feedback, ideas, input, suggestions and constructive criticism. Please drop us a line and add any comment, we will see it gets posted is appropriate.
